April 25, 2008 - NC Connected Joins Cisco at North Edgecombe High School

Friday, 25 April 2008 - Boondocks Media School (BMS) students traveled with NC Connected to North Edgecombe High School to meet a team of IT professionals from Cisco and to tour the Cisco Systems Tactical Mobile Operations Command Center. They were given a tour of the Command Center by Mr. Rene Daughtry and other members of the Cisco TACOPS team. Ms. Sheila Porcher, the school's webmaster, gave the girls a tour of the school's computer lab and showed them the school's web site.

BMS students, Adrianna Nicholson, Shayln Richardson, and Jamillah Tawwab set up shop in the North Edgecombe High School cafeteria. They photographed NEHS students and staff touring the Cisco Van, attending lectures, and enjoying the day. The girls also attended a lecture on understanding and preparing for careers in information technology.

With the help of some new friends from North Edgecombe High, the NC Connected students downloaded pictures to their laptops and created this web page and a photo gallery to showcase the events of the day. They also took the opportunity to talk with interested students and North Edgecombe staff about web design and about the programs offered by NC Connected.

Special thanks to Cisco for inviting NC Connected to participate in the work they are doing in Edgecombe county.
